Excited for this! Also a nonfiction writer who recently stumbled into working on a novel and I feel either out of my depth or invigorated, depending on the day. Looking forward to your insights from the trenches.
“Who gets to tell the story or a life that ends violently?” What a great question! Since 2018 I’ve wanted to write about the disappearance and death of my close friend and when I got stymied with approaching it from a non-fiction lens, shifted to the idea of a novel at a friends suggestion. Then I realized I don’t know how to write a novel 😂 I cannot wait to read yours and hopefully learn some things along the way as you write your way there. Congrats Lilly!
I loved the linked article about publicity essays and the peek under the hood about how they came to be. I aspire to getting my essay-writing muscles built up enough someday that I can sustain an ongoing practice of submitting. But it's encouraging to see how those ahead of me on the path are working their creative life. 🙏
I think making your journey public as you grapple (or is it “wrestle”) with a new genre is a bold move, courageous! So of course you would! Looking forward to reading!
Interested in this and congrats! I started my writing career in fiction and wrote a short story collection for my MFA and for many years before aiming my arrow more toward nonfic. That said, I'm feeling a tug back...so your findings will definitely intrigue me.
"But alas, I am constitutionally incapable of keeping my mouth shut for that long."
felt this in my soul.
lol I originally had an astrology reference there—I have too many Gemini placements to keep secrets for long!!
As a fellow fiction-curious “non-fictioner 4 life”, I am very excited to follow this series! Thank you for doing this xo
